What Insurance do you really need?

Insurance is important, we all know that we need it but it does raise the question of just what insurance do we really need. You can insure anything if you want to but that doesn't mean that you should. The last thing that you are going to want is to be paying for more insurance than you need. At the same time you don't want to get caught without enough coverage so you need to find the right balance when it comes to insurance.

The most important insurance that you have to have is health insurance. The cost of receiving medical care is very high and you can be sure that at some point you are going to need it. Unfortunately because of the high cost of health insurance there are a lot of people who don't have this coverage. This is a serious problem that is only going to get worse with an aging population. As you get older you are going to need more medical care and that means that your insurance will be even more important. Without health insurance an accident could leave you financially ruined.

The other insurance that you have to have is disability insurance. This is to cover you in the event that you are disabled and are unable to work or to take care of yourself. This is important insurance because the cost of long term care if you need it is very expensive, without insurance it is very unlikely that you would be able to pay for it. You also need to make sure that you have disability insurance so that you can support your family in the event that you can't work.

There are other types of insurance that you may need under certain circumstances. An example of this would be car insurance, if you drive you need to have this kind of insurance, it is required by law. You will also likely need home insurance if you own a house; in most cases the bank that gave you the mortgage will require you to have this kind of coverage. Even if they don't you would be crazy to not have it. Life insurance also falls into this category, you aren't required to have it but if you have dependents you really do need it. However there is no reason to be paying for life insurance if you have no dependents.

A lot of other types of insurance are optional but are usually a good idea under certain circumstances. An example of this would be travel insurance. Obviously there is no reason to pay for it if you are not taking a trip but if you are traveling it is really a good idea to have it. In most of these circumstances you are going to have to weigh the risks and look at the cost of the insurance and determine if it is worth paying for the insurance or not.
